Über Plumeria

Auch Frangipani genannt, ist Plumeria ein tropischer bis subtropischer Strauch oder kleiner Baum, der herrlich duftende Blüten produziert, die oft in Leis verwendet werden. Auf vielen pazifischen Inseln tragen Frauen eine Plumeriablume über ihren rechten Ohren, wenn sie unverheiratet sind und auf eine Beziehung hoffen. Glücklich verheiratete Frauen tragen die Blumen über ihren linken Ohren. Die Gattung Apocynaceae umfasst nur 7 oder 8 Arten von Plumeria, die in den tropischen Teilen Zentral- und Südamerikas beheimatet sind.

Standortvorbereitung

Wenn Sie nicht an einem Ort leben, der niemals Frost bekommt, sollten Sie Ihre Plumeria in einem Topf anbauen, der während der Herbst- und Wintermonate nach drinnen transportiert werden kann. Verwenden Sie für Container eine grobe, gut durchlässige Blumenerde, da Plumerias "nasse Füße" nicht interessieren. Cactus Mix ist eine gute Wahl.

Besondere Merkmale

Plumerias sind für ihre Blumen geschätzt, die von weiß über gelb bis rosa bis rot reichen, wobei einige Sorten schöne zweifarbige Blüten haben. Der Baum hat seltsame, fast prähistorisch aussehende Zweige mit breiten, ledrigen Blättern. Einige Sorten sind im Winter laubabwerfend, sogar in tropischen Lagen. In Mexiko verwendeten die alten Azteken Plumeria-Blüten für viele medizinische Zwecke und machten sie oft zu einer Salbe oder Lotion.

Eine Sorte wählen

Plumeria Alba, oder weiße Plumeria, ist die am meisten duftende und leicht verfügbare Sorte. Wenn Sie in Südkalifornien, Florida oder Hawai'i leben, tragen lokale Baumschulen normalerweise einige Sorten. In kühleren Klimazonen müssen Sie Starterpflanzen möglicherweise aus einem Spezialkatalog bestellen. Wenn Sie in Hawai'i Urlaub machen, finden Sie Plumeria-Stecklinge zum Verkauf an den Flughäfen. Diese sind leicht zu starten, nachdem Sie zu Hause angekommen sind: einfach in Blumenerde mit Perlit zugeben und gleichmäßig feucht halten.

Pflanzen

Für Abzweigungen, messen und markieren Sie 4 Zoll von unten. Füllen Sie einen Topf mit gleichen Mengen Blumenerde und Perlit. Füllen Sie den Topf mit Erbsenkies und drücken Sie es dann und festigen Sie es. Wasser gut und dann stellen Sie Ihren Topf an einem warmen, sonnigen Ort. Überwasser kann dazu führen, dass der Schnitt verfault, also nur einmal pro Woche Wasser hinzufügen.

Pflege

Nachdem dein Schnitt ein gutes Wurzelsystem hat, verpflanze es in einen größeren Topf oder im Freien, wenn du in einer warmen Klimazone wohnst. Im Frühjahr, wenn neues Wachstum beginnt, füttern Sie mit einem hohen Stickstoffdünger. Wechseln Sie im Mai zu einem Dünger mit hohem Phosphorgehalt, um das Blühen zu fördern. Plumeria braucht selten geschnitten zu werden, aber wenn Sie schneiden, können die fleischigen Zweige für zusätzliche Pflanzen angewurzelt werden.
